Clarendon Students and House-staff   –   Comments

We hope these comments will help to give you confidence to place your child with Clarendon. If you would like to speak to the parents of a Clarendon student in your country, wherever possible we would be happy to arrange this.

Over the past 13 years, Clarendon has looked after many young people, aged between 7 and 21 years of age. Each has a different need – from a small child who needs a great deal of support and plenty of family visits to an independent university student who needs only to know that Danice or one of her staff are there to help with practical problems or give occasional advice. We happily guide children from their first days at school in Britain to their graduation many years later!

Halina, Inwha's Housemistress, St. Helen's, Northwood

"Please thank Danice for everything that she has done for Inwha. I think that Clarendon provides a very efficient and caring service for overseas students and I have been very happy to work with them."

Hitomi, four years at Woldingham, with a place at Oxford.
"What guardianship meant to me was a kind second family that I could rely on during my stay at Woldingham. I was assisted by guardianship through both academic and daily life, by receiving broader advice and being introduced to Clarendon families. was not only visited at school on a regular basis but also helped in finding revision and interview practice courses that were suitable for my own needs and I think this has been a great benefit for me as some of those things are not necessarily offered by school."

EVA is from Germany and has studied at Heathfield School in Ascot
My name is Eva and I spent my last school year in a boarding school in England. At first, it was hard to settle in and I was always longing to go to my Clarendon family as they helped me overcome homesickness.

At first I was very nervous to go to a family I had never met before in my entire life, but from the first minute, I felt very cosy. The Seymours were really nice to me and gave me the feeling I was warmly welcomed in their house and that my English was not as bad as I always thought. I was quite upset to go back to school on Sunday. But I didn’t have to say goodbye for long.

I spent all my exeat weekends with this family and we did many things. They showed me around their area and we went to Oxford, visited aeroplane shows, etc. I learned loads about England. I tried different foods from what we eat at home and I learnt how to play sports I never had heard about before. We even celebrated my birthday with a cake and presents, and I went for a surprise flight in a 1942 Tiger Moth. It was great!

My parents really wanted to meet my guardian family and when the Seymours came to pick me up from school at the end of term, my parens and I spent a few days with them. I had a fantastic time and hope that we will stay in touch with each other and meet again sometime.

TAMASA is from Japan and studied at the Arts Educational School in Tring
TAMASA writes: "Hello, Mrs Iles, Thank you for your beautiful card. It was pretty! It's the end of term next Friday. After school I'm going to London, because my granma and my aunt are coming to England for sightseeing and to collect me. Mrs Frankl will take me there. I just want to tell you about it. I can't believe that I'm going back to Japan in two weeks! I'm really excited, but I'll miss this school and Mrs Frankl's family. I like them very much. They are so nice! Thank you for organizing everything for me."
TAMASA’s father adds:
"Thank you for your kind care of Tamasa. She is so pleased to be treated as a family member of the Frankls through the year. It was great that Mrs Frankl went to all of Tamasa’s performances as if she were the real mother. Keep in touch always, and if you come to Japan, our house is your home"

IRIS is from Hong Kong and studies at Godolphin School in Salisbury
I came to the United Kingdom in 2002. I stay with the JONES family who live between Bristol and Bath. Clarendon asked them to come and visit to make me feel more comfortable and less nervous. I have been staying with them ever since and I have had the most amazing time.

I have to thank Clarendon for finding such a perfect match for me and making such a difference to my life here in the UK. The Jones family lifestyle is more or less the same as mine and we go to many parties which enabled me to feel a part of the family. Among other things, we went to watch Shakespeare and to the Bath Show and I took part in the village pantomime with Ying who is a Clarendon student from Thailand. It has been delightful to have them as my family!
